Ripple: Speaker Cleaner

Speaker sounding muffled after rain, a spill or the shower? Ripple plays low tones that help push water and dust out of your phone's speaker grille, then uses your phone's own microphone to check how it sounds now.

PROOF IT WORKED
Ripple runs a short speaker health check before and after each clean. You get a score out of 100, the score from before cleaning next to it, and a chart of seven frequency bands from 100 Hz to 8 kHz, so you can see what came back. Calibrate once while your speaker is dry, and future scores compare against your own phone.

SMART EJECT
Before a Water clean, a quick low sweep finds the frequency your speaker moves most at, and Ripple cleans at that frequency. If the mic is off, it uses your last tuning or the standard 165 Hz.

CLEAN IN STAGES
Water runs a low push, then pulses, then a sweep, for 60 seconds. Ripple turns the volume up for the run and puts it back to where it was afterwards. If the score shows something is still in there, clean again, up to three runs in a row, and watch the score climb from run to run.

GENTLE ON YOUR SPEAKER
Tones fade in and out and never clip. Each run has a fixed length and the speaker rests between runs. Ripple stops right away if headphones connect or a call takes over the audio, so tones never play into your ears.

PRIVATE
No account, no ads, no tracking. The microphone is only used during health checks, Smart Eject and the mic tools. Audio is processed in memory on your phone and thrown away. Only the band levels and score of each check and your tuned frequency are saved, on this phone.

PERMISSIONS
• Microphone: health checks, Smart Eject, mic check and sound meter. Cleaning works without it.
• Change audio settings: route tones to the earpiece
• Internet: only for the Pro purchase and restore
• Google Play billing: the Pro purchase

HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT DOES
Ripple helps clear water and dust from the speaker grille. It can't repair a damaged speaker, and it doesn't make your phone waterproof. Scores are measured with your phone's own mic: a useful guide, not a lab test. If it still sounds off after two runs, the speaker may need repair.
