PROPHETIC TRAINING #1: PRAYER FOR ACTIVATION

Step 1: Begin with prayer.
Here are the prayer points to open up the session: Pray for open eyes, ears, and hearts.

• Pray for the presence of the Lord.
• Pray for the Holy Spirit to empower you with the prophetic gift.

Step 2: In prayer, ask for the gift of prophecy. Ask God to make this gift grow within you so that you can use it to edify others.
Receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit can be received simply by asking. According to the Apostle John, if we ask anything according to the will of God, we will receive it (1 John 5:14-15). Jesus himself said that if an evil father can give his children good things, what more will the Father in heaven? If His children ask for the Gift of the Holy Spirit, would He not provide it?

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:9-13, NIV)
At this point, the neophytes must SPEAK their requests and ASK the Holy Spirit to activate their prophetic gifts.

Step 3: Laying on of hands.
In the book of Acts, Peter and John placed their hands on the believers in Samaria, by which they received the Holy Spirit. Many disciples received the Holy Spirit by the laying on of hands. There is a community effort for receiving the power of the Holy Spirit.

When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria. When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. (Acts 8:14-19, NIV)

At this point, elder prophets must lay their hands on those who want to activate their gifts of prophecy. As they lay their hands on these neophytes, they must pray for the following:

• Pray that the neophytes would see the seeds of the spiritual gifts that have been planted in them to grow and to flourish.
• Pray that the neophytes would hear from the Holy Spirit for how to begin their prophetic journey.
• Pray that the neophytes experience the touch of the Holy Spirit, and to feel the Holy Spirit empower their tongues to speak the Word of God.
