Helping parents with children diagnosed with cancer adjust to ‘a new normal’.
Returning home from hospital during, or following, a child’s cancer treatment can be daunting; and the months afterwards can be tough. Many families feel unsure of where to look for support. The New Normal Navigator is a free app designed to give parents of diagnosed children the resources to help adjust to what many describe as ‘a new normal’. The app has been developed by Camp Quality, using input from Australian families who have faced these challenges and provided their insights to help others at this critical time. The Navigator generates personalised information and connects users to services that may be helpful for their family situation.
The New Normal Navigator was developed thanks to funding from the Australian Government Department of Health.
What does the app do?
The New Normal Navigator is an app that helps mums, dads and other carers of a child diagnosed with cancer navigate the return home from hospital and the months afterwards. You’ll need to enter some info about your family and answer some questions about what sorts of topics of info and support might be useful and then the app will personalise to you. It will:
* Provides tips, advice and stories from other families who have been there
* Connect you to useful support services
* Give family fun therapy ideas
The app also contains load of useful information, including info from the Redkite book ‘Beyond Treatment'. The app will check in on what is happening for you and keep asking you questions so that it can provide the right information and services for where you and your family are at over the coming months.
