Counterfeit memory cards and USB drives are made to report a size they do not
have. The controller lies, so your phone believes it, the file manager believes
it, and everything looks fine until the day your photos come back as grey
squares. Checking the size does not help, because the size is the lie.

The only way to know is to write data across the whole card and read it back.
That is what this app does.

■ The two tests

⚡ Quick test
Claims space right across the card, drops markers through it, and reads those
markers back. A card that pretends to be bigger than it is wraps around and
overwrites the earlier markers, which is what the markers look for. Allow
roughly a minute per gigabyte, because the space still has to be written once.

🔍 Full test
Writes over every byte and reads all of it back, so it takes about twice as
long. This one tells you whether every part of the card is good, not just
whether the size is honest.

Save it as a text file or send it straight to a seller or a marketplace. It has
no serial number and no account details in it.

Memory cards your phone has mounted are listed next to the internal storage.
A USB drive on an OTG adapter can be tested only if your phone makes it
available to apps, which not every phone does. If it is not listed, the app
cannot reach it.

❓ An answer when the card does not show up at all
A card can go missing for three different reasons and each one needs something
different from you. If it was formatted on a computer it may be NTFS, which
Windows reads and Android does not. If it does not appear anywhere on the phone,
it has stopped answering, and no format and no app can bring that back. The app
lays out which one you are looking at instead of just saying nothing was found.

■ Honest limits

This app cannot repair a counterfeit card. Nothing can. The flash inside is
simply smaller than the label says, and reformatting does not create memory
that is not there. What the app can do is tell you before you lose something.

The app cannot format a card either. Android keeps that for the system alone, so
the app opens the storage settings for you and the phone does the formatting.

A phone can only reach the card through the file system, so the quick test
works by claiming space rather than by addressing raw sectors the way a desktop
tool can. That spots most cards that fake their size, but some cards can hide it
from a quick check. The full test writes and reads every byte, so if you need
certainty, run the full test.

The way the app tells a fake card from a worn one has been checked against
simulated fake cards, not yet against a large set of real counterfeits.
