Solar Eclipse: Map & Times

Will you actually see totality from where you will be standing? Most eclipse apps answer with a computed guess. Eclipse answers with the official data.

Inside Spain, Eclipse shows the verdict of the Instituto Geográfico Nacional for every municipality. That matters more than it sounds. A textbook calculation puts Madrid just inside the path of totality; the IGN puts it outside, at 99.90 percent. An app that gets this wrong is proven wrong in public, on the day.

TWO ECLIPSES, ONE APP

2 August 2027 is the big one: totality runs from southern Spain across Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, where Luxor gets 6 minutes 23 seconds, the longest over land in decades.

26 January 2028 brings an annular eclipse, the ring of fire, crossing Spain at sunset with the Sun only a few degrees above the horizon. Both are already in the app, and it moves on to the next one by itself, with no update.

WHAT YOU GET

• A straight answer for your exact spot: total, annular, partial, or right on the limit. When you are on the edge, the app says so instead of guessing, and names the nearest town safely inside.
• Every contact time to the second, in the local time of the place you asked about.
• Which way to look. A live compass points at the right patch of sky and gives the Sun's height above the horizon, so you can check today that no building or ridge is in the way.
• Times clipped to sunset. Where the eclipse ends below the horizon, the app never shows a time you cannot observe.
• A cloud forecast for your spot in the final week, so you know whether to drive.
• Alerts the day before, an hour before, ten minutes before, and at the start and end of totality, all scheduled on your phone.
• A home screen widget that counts down the days and, on the day, the time to the next contact.
• The full path map, with the centre line and both limits.

WORKS WITHOUT SIGNAL

The calculation runs entirely on your phone. Only the cloud forecast and the map need a connection. On eclipse day, when everyone opens an eclipse app in the same few minutes, that is the difference between an answer and a spinning wheel.

PRIVACY

No account, no ads, no tracking across other apps. Your exact position stays on your phone: the forecast is requested for a rounded point. The app sends error reports, tied to a random identifier created on install rather than to you, so problems get fixed before eclipse day.

SAFETY FIRST

Never look at the Sun without certified ISO 12312-2 filters. An annular eclipse has no safe moment: even a perfect ring is direct sunlight. The app says so, and only tells you to take your glasses off when you are genuinely inside totality.
