Aozora Bunko Stella - A unique reading experience woven through chance encounters

"What should I read next?" Find a new answer to that question. Read the randomly appearing passage, and if it moves you, add it to your bookshelf. Chance and intuition will help you find your perfect book from Aozora Bunko.
Don't know what to type in the search box? That's when this app comes in handy.

○ Encountering a Fateful Passage
Tap the screen and a passage selected from 500 works in Aozora Bunko will appear. The work title and author's name are displayed, but there's no synopsis or rating. Simply face the passage in front of you and see if it moves you—that's the only criterion for judgment.
If you're thrilled, press the "Thrill" button. An animation of flowing stars will bring the "star" you discovered to your bookshelf. If not, skip. Your next encounter is waiting, right there.

○ Weaving Your Own Bookshelf
A bookshelf filled with works that inspire you. It's not someone else's recommendation, nor is it a top ranking, but only works that you yourself have chosen.
Your reading progress is also recorded, and you can continue reading from where you left off at a bookmark. Mark your favorite works and look back on works you've already read. Your reading trajectory is visualized.
For active searching, there's also a search function. You can search by title, author, or even part of the text. Both chance and fate coexist in this reading experience.

○ Commitment to a comfortable reading experience
You won't tire even after long reads. Adjust to your preferences. We value this kind of reading environment.
Aozora Bunko's signature "ruby" (furigana) can be switched between three modes: with ruby, kanji only, or hiragana only—choose the mode that best suits your needs.
You can freely adjust the font size using the slider. Enjoy comfort any time of day or location with light and dark modes.
You can save a passage that moves you as a beautiful image. Your personalized literary card, complete with title and author, can be sent discreetly to friends or shared on social media to share your inspirations.

Your personal page is your reading world itself. Your favorite authors, books, memorable passages. When, where, what you read with, your favorite genre—you can share this as a self-introduction card that reflects your reading style.

Why "Stella"?

Stella means "star" in Latin. Like the countless stars shining in the night sky, Aozora Bunko houses countless works. From among them, it's a journey to find a passage that resonates with you—your star.

Just as constellations weave stories together, passages that inspire you will connect and expand your own literary world. This is the kind of reading experience we want to provide.

Find Your Star

Sometimes, a book you stumble across by chance becomes an unforgettable one. Rather than a "recommended book" based on an algorithm, it's a "book you chose" guided by chance and intuition. It's a special reading experience just for you.

Welcome to Aozora Bunko Stella.
We hope you find a book that excites you.
