About CastAway: Cast Videos to TV

Found a video on a website and want it on your TV? CastAway does that one job, and does it properly.

Cast HTML5 video from the sites you browse to your TV. Open a page in CastAway's built-in browser, press play, and a "Video found" pill pops up. Tap it, pick your TV, done. Your phone becomes the remote.

PLAY IT, THEN CAST IT
When a page is playing an HTML5 video, CastAway offers to send it to your Chromecast, Google TV or Android TV with Chromecast built in. A couple of taps and it's on the TV. HLS streams, MP4 files and DASH manifests all work.

MADE FOR REAL CHROMECASTS
Many sites now serve AV1 or HEVC video, which most Chromecasts can't decode. CastAway tells sites its browser prefers H.264, the format every Chromecast plays, so you get the stream that actually works. If one stream won't play, it switches to another on the same page. Turn this off under Advanced if your TV handles the newer formats.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Paste a link, search, or browse to the page.
2. Press play on the video.
3. Tap "Cast to TV", choose your TV and sit back.

STRAIGHT FROM CHROME
Already on the page in Chrome? Tap Share, then Cast with CastAway, and the page opens in CastAway.

A PROPER REMOTE
Play, pause, scrub, jump back or forward 10 seconds and change the volume from your phone. Mini controls stay at the bottom of the screen while you keep browsing.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS
When a video can't be cast, CastAway says so and tells you why. No endless spinners, no guessing. Tap Report to see exactly what was sent: the stream, its codecs, the route and the TV's answer. Copy it or share it when you want help with a site.

RECENTS
Your last 20 casts sit on the home screen, so getting back to a show is one tap.

NO ACCOUNT, NO ADS
No sign up, no login, no ads. Your recents list stays on your phone.

WHAT YOU NEED
• A Chromecast, Google TV, or a TV with Chromecast built in
• Your phone and TV on the same wifi (guest networks that keep devices apart won't work)
• Android 8.0 or later with Google Play services

THE HONEST FINE PRINT
• Protected (DRM) video, like most paid streaming services, isn't supported. CastAway tells you when a video is protected, so use that service's own app.
• YouTube and Vimeo aren't supported. They have their own Cast button, so CastAway points you to their app.
• Some sites need CastAway running while the video plays. A small notification shows while that is happening, and you can lock your phone.
• CastAway's browser keeps its own logins and cookies, separate from Chrome.
