Distance Meter

Measure the distance to an object — or its size — from a single photo.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Point the camera at the object and take a photo.
2. Swipe one finger along the object to mark it.
3. Enter its real size (a door, a car, a tree, a person) and read the distance. Or enter the distance and get the size.

The app uses angular size, the same principle as the mil (thousandths) formula used by hunters, surveyors and golfers: the smaller an object looks, the farther away it is.

FEATURES
• No calibration: the app reads your camera data automatically. If your phone does not report it, there is a quick fine-tune in Settings.
• Zoom with two fingers or a double tap to mark the edges precisely; the object can be anywhere on the screen.
• From about 1 meter to several kilometers, depending on the camera and how precisely you mark the object.
• Metric (cm, m, km) and imperial (in, ft, yd, mi) units.
• A short tutorial with practice on the first launch; you can open it again from Settings.
• GPS tracker: record a route and see distance, average and current speed, and your track history.
• Screen ruler: real centimeters and inches on your display.
• Your photos are not saved or sent anywhere.

WHERE IT HELPS
Golf and hunting, construction and interior design, surveying and landscaping, photography, hiking and travel — wherever you cannot reach the object with a tape measure.

GOOD TO KNOW
The result depends on how precisely you mark the object and how well you know its real size, so choose objects of a known size. The camera is used only to take the photo you measure; location is used only while the tracker is recording.
