About Tiny Rooks: Learn Chess
Tiny Rooks teaches children chess, one puzzle at a time.
Five courses take a child from their first checkmate to real chess tactics. Seventy-five lessons, each with a worked example that plays itself on the board, then twenty chess puzzles to try alone.
WHAT IS INSIDE
• 22,000 chess puzzles, sorted into 65 themes
• Chess tactics: fork, pin, skewer, discovered attack, double check, deflection
• Checkmate in one, two, three, four and five moves
• Named mates: back rank, smothered, Arabian, Anastasia, Opera
• Endgames: pawn, rook, queen, bishop and knight
• 5 courses, 20 chapters, 75 lessons
• Play a whole game against the computer, at twenty strengths
• An analysis board, to take the position apart afterwards
• Works offline — the puzzles are on the phone
HOW IT WORKS
Every puzzle is a real position from a real game. Find the winning move. Get it right and your points go up. Get it wrong and the board waits while you look again. A hint shows you the piece and costs you nothing.
Levels are shelves, not an endless stream. Each level is twenty puzzles in order of difficulty, and it stays the same twenty — so a child can finish one and come back to the next.
FOR PARENTS
• No adverts, ever
• No analytics, no tracking, no other company watching your child
• Nothing can be bought without answering a question a young child cannot
• A report that shows what your child is good at and what needs work
• Delete the account inside the app and everything goes with it
FOURTEEN DAYS FREE
Every new account gets fourteen days of everything, free. We ask for no card details. After that, solving puzzles needs a subscription — monthly or yearly, paid through Google Play. Courses, lesson introductions and the worked examples stay open either way, so you can always see what you are paying for.
Puzzle positions come from the Lichess open puzzle database, released under CC0.
