About Court dates, case history

Obiter is a case diary for practising lawyers. It keeps your cause list, the next date on every matter, and the full history of what happened on each one — and it works with no internet at all, because courtrooms are where signal goes to die.

YOUR COUNTRY'S COURTS, NOT SOMEBODY ELSE'S

Most legal apps are built for one country and everyone else makes do. Obiter asks where you practise and then speaks that jurisdiction: the case types your courts actually use, the ladder of courts as your system arranges it, the way your courts write a date.

An advocate in Dhaka gets Title Suits, Artha Rin and the Nari-o-Shishu Tribunal, with the Supreme Court of Bangladesh holding its High Court Division and Appellate Division. A lawyer in Delhi gets Section 138 cheque cases before a Judicial Magistrate and SLPs before the Supreme Court. In Karachi it is Khula suits and the Federal Shariat Court. In London it is the Crown Court, the King's Bench Division and the First-tier Tribunal.

Every country in the world is in the list — 194 of them. Where a country has no list written for it yet, Obiter uses the pattern its courts belong to, so it is useful on the first day rather than the day someone gets round to it.

AND YOUR OWN WORDS WHERE OURS ARE WRONG

No list is ever complete. If your court is not there, add it. If your case type is missing, add it — with the names your own courts give the two sides. What you add is yours, offered on every case from then on, and it travels in your backup file.

IT KNOWS WHICH COURT HEARS WHAT

Pick a court that cannot hear that kind of case and Obiter says so quietly — a Title Suit is not filed in the High Court Division, a writ does not lie to a Magistrate. It is a second opinion under the box, never a refusal. Matters get transferred, remitted and revised, and you know your own case better than any app does.

WHAT IT DOES EVERY DAY

• Today's cause list, and any day's, court by court — a day spread across three
courts reads as three errands, not one long list
• Record what happened and the next date in one step
• Every date a matter has ever had, in order
• Search in your own language, including Bangla
• Party names, the side you appear for, client phone as a dial button, act and
section, stage, and your own notes
• Share a day's list, or export it as a spreadsheet
• Works entirely offline

YOUR CLIENTS' BUSINESS STAYS YOURS

There is no account, no login, and no server holding your cases. Everything you type stays in this app on this phone. We never receive a copy and could not produce one if asked. For privileged material that is not a feature, it is the whole point.

A backup file is kept in your phone's own Documents folder, so removing and reinstalling the app cannot empty your diary.

WHAT IT COSTS

One month free, then a yearly subscription priced for the country you practise in. Google Play shows you the exact figure in your own currency before anything is confirmed.

If the subscription lapses, your diary stays readable. Every case, every date, every note — searchable, shareable, exportable. Only adding and editing stop. Locking a lawyer out of their own notes would be indefensible, so we do not.
