CommonRoom (CR)

CommonRoom is the shared room for groups that run on trust — residents' associations, chamas, saccos and savings circles, school parents' groups, committees, clubs and community organisations.

Instead of important decisions and money records getting lost in busy chat groups, CommonRoom gives every group its own space where conversations, meetings, decisions, tasks, documents and money live together.

SPACES FOR EVERY GROUP
• Organisations and circles, each with rooms for the topics that matter
• See what needs you today: minutes to approve, votes to cast, tasks due, contributions to pay
• Invite members with a link or QR code; roles for chairs, secretaries, treasurers and moderators
• Pin up to three spaces to the top of your list

CHAMA AND SACCO MONEY, CLEARLY RECORDED
• Merry-go-round, savings, savings plus merry-go-round, and investment groups
• The treasurer records contributions and payouts; members report payments and the treasurer confirms
• Members can pay ahead for upcoming rounds, and late joiners can catch up on missed rounds
• Every member sees their own statement; corrections keep the original entry, so the history can be checked
• Share a round update with who has paid and who still owes
• CommonRoom keeps the records - it never holds or moves your money

CHAT THAT STAYS ORGANISED
• Rooms and direct messages with photos, documents, replies, @mentions and likes
• Informal polls, pinned messages and read-only announcement rooms
• Group huddles and live meetings with audio and video
• Choose a chat background, including CommonRoom's own pattern

MEETINGS PEOPLE TRUST
• Agendas, RSVPs and attendance with automatic quorum
• Motions, seconders and recorded decisions during the meeting
• Minutes drafted from the meeting, approved and published to members
• Action items become tasks with owners and due dates

DECISIONS AND TASKS
• Binding votes with clear rules: who can vote, quorum, majority and closing time
• Tasks with assignees, subtasks, comments, attachments and reminders

DOCUMENTS AND DUES
• Shared documents with folders, versions and previews
• Dues and contributions: see who has paid, record payments with numbered receipts, export for the AGM

YOUR COMMON ID
• One verified profile for all your groups
• You decide who sees each section - your phone number stays private

BUILT FOR REAL LIFE
• Works on weak networks: read and write without a connection, and it sends when you are back
• English and Kiswahili
• App lock with PIN or fingerprint
• Use CommonRoom Web on a computer: scan a QR code with the app to open your groups on a bigger screen

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Members never see each other's phone numbers. Only group officers can reveal contact details, and every reveal is recorded. Notifications never show the content of your messages or money records.
