Bebetalk — baby sound diary

Bebetalk remembers, so you don't have to.

Feeds, nappies, sleep — one tap each, one hand, at 3 a.m. And the part no other
app keeps: the sounds your child makes, and the words they invent before they
can say the real ones.


WHAT IT DOES NOT DO — and this comes first

Bebetalk does not read your baby's cries. Nobody can. The research is settled,
and we ran the test ourselves on 39,201 recorded cries from 24 babies: matching
a sound to a reason reached 35 %, while simply answering "the most common reason
for this baby" reached 54 %. Following such an app would do worse than ignoring
it.

So Bebetalk says nothing about your child. No norm, no comparison to other
children, no average other than your own child's. It is not a medical device: it
does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent anything.

What it does instead is simpler, and it is what an exhausted parent actually
needs: it remembers.


THE DAY, IN TWO TAPS

· Time since the last feed, in large type, the moment you open the app
· Breast — with a timer that survives a locked screen, a pause, a switch of side
· Bottle and water, in millilitres
· Solids — you write the food yourself. No list, no suggestion, and never grams
· Nappies and sleep, one tap
· "Same as last time" — it shows you what will be noted before you tap
· Wrong time? Change it. −5, −15, −30 minutes, or type it. You note afterwards,
and that is normal
· A home screen widget that stays exact, without opening anything


THEIR SOUNDS, KEPT

Record a cry or a babble. Name it in your own words — "wants arms", "tummy". Add
your note. Months later, you can still hear it.

When your child cries and you want to know, Bebetalk does not answer. It puts
YOUR sounds within earshot, in the order you chose, and lets you compare them
yourself. Your ear, on your own child, beats anything we could measure.

Cry intensity is shown from 0 to 10 — relative to YOUR child, calibrated on your
own recordings. There is no reference value anywhere, no threshold, and no
number is ever tied to an action.


THEIR FIRST WORDS

"Tatapf" means their dummy. In six months they will say the real word and
nothing will be left of it — except here.

Write the form you hear, and what you say it means. Bebetalk dates it, keeps the
recording, and shows you the first time. Listen through the occurrences in order
and you hear the word take shape.

Bebetalk recognises no words. You write them. Nothing is grouped automatically,
nothing is counted to be compared, and there is no reference age anywhere in the
app.


YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS

· There is no Bebetalk server. Nowhere to send anything

a paywall by walking into one.
