About Temelie: Math Learning Gaps
Temelie helps a learner who is stuck in mathematics, and one trusted helper, choose where to start.
The learner answers a short check of up to eight questions. There is no timer and no score, and every question has pause, skip and “I do not know”. Each answer is weighed against a map of how mathematical ideas build on each other, from counting to early algebra, and the next question is chosen to narrow things down.
The check ends with one of three results, never a grade, level, percentage or comparison:
• A starting point: one idea to work on together
• Nothing broken in what we checked
• We need another short check, when the answers say too little
For a starting point, the helper gets one card:
• The idea, in plain words
• One ten-minute activity with ordinary objects
• Why the answers point there, and how sure the app is
• Another way in if the first one does not connect
After trying it together, the helper reports what happened: got it; got it, then lost it; not yet; or we could not try it. “Got it” leads to a new short check; the other reports change the next step.
Two ways to use it:
• One shared phone: the helper can say what the learner is working on now, then hands the phone over. Answers, cards and notes stay on that phone. During the learner’s turn, Back never shows other learners, and with the app lock on, handing the phone back asks for the helper’s PIN or fingerprint.
• Two phones: the helper adds a learner and shares a one-time code. The learner answers on their own phone, and the helper can be told when a check is finished.
Temelie includes:
• English and Bangla
• Short shared work notes with reporting, hiding, blocking and Child Safety controls
• An optional PIN or fingerprint lock for the app
• Export and deletion controls for each learner
Temelie suggests a starting point from a few answers, and it can be wrong; the helper’s own judgment comes first. It contains no lessons, videos, automated tutoring, homework marking, rewards, streaks, class management, public profiles, stranger discovery or chat. A real person sits with the learner and carries out the action.
