About EYEUM - ALS Eye-Gaze Speech
EYEUM is a free communication aid for people who have difficulty
speaking or using their hands, including those living with ALS.
By moving your eyes left or right, you can select a phrase that
the app then speaks aloud.
HOW IT WORKS
The first screen holds fourteen choices: six essential phrases,
four frequently used phrases, and four category buttons - Pain,
Action, Environment, and Feeling.
Choosing a category opens a second screen with up to twelve
phrases for that category. Once a phrase is selected, it is
spoken aloud and the app returns to the first screen
automatically, ready for the next message.
This two-level layout keeps the most urgent phrases within a
single selection, while still giving access to a wider
vocabulary when there is time to say more.
FEATURES
- Only two directions needed - works with limited eye movement
- Essential phrases reachable directly from the first screen
- Four phrase categories: Pain, Action, Environment, Feeling
- Automatic return to the first screen after each phrase
- Every phrase can be edited to suit the person using it
- One tap restores all phrases to their original wording
- Frequently used phrases move to the first screen, and the
layout stays fixed while the app is in use
- Available in English, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese and French (menus, phrases and speech)
- Large-text layout designed for tablet screens
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Everything runs on your device. The face detection model is
included in the app, so no internet connection is needed. The
