Ambit: the circuit of a life

Ambit draws time the way it actually behaves. In circles.

A calendar cuts the year into boxes and throws away the shape of it. Ambit keeps the shape: three nested rings, one gesture apart, showing where you are right now in the day, in the year, and in your life.

DAY

Sunrise, noon, sunset and dusk for exactly where you are, computed on the device. The marker sits where the sun sits, and the lit part of the ring is the light already spent. You can see how much of the day is left without reading a number.

YEAR

The whole year as one continuous arc. Solstices and equinoxes fall where they belong, day length lengthens and shortens as you watch, and the season turns instead of flipping over.

LIFE

One ring for every year you have lived, and the faint ones still ahead. Mark the years that mattered — a birth, a move, the year something began — and they stay where they happened. Anniversaries come back as what they really are: the same point on a later ring.

SEAL THE DAY

At dusk Ambit asks one question and gives you one line to answer it. Hold to seal. Sealed days collect in an archive that is worth reading a year later, which is the only reason to keep it.

EVERYTHING STAYS ON YOUR PHONE

No account, no sign-in, no analytics, no network. Your marks and your notes are stored locally and nowhere else.

There is also a home screen widget that keeps the day's arc in view, and a monochrome icon that follows your wallpaper.

Ambit is for noticing where you are, not for optimising it. Nothing to keep up with, no streaks to break.
