About YoMoo: Japanese Reading

Read real Japanese without leaving the page every time you get stuck.

YoMoo is a Japanese reading app for learners who want to work with real Japanese while keeping furigana, dictionary lookups, JLPT information, audio, translation, and vocabulary tools close at hand.

Read an article, story, JLPT passage, or your own Japanese text. Then turn what you just read into listening, vocabulary, and shadowing practice.

READ JAPANESE AT YOUR LEVEL

• Simplified N4-N5 news for learners building reading confidence
• Full Japanese news for N3-N1 learners
• JLPT reading passages from N5 through N1
• Aozora Bunko literature
• Your own text through paste, PDF, DOCX, or camera OCR

KEEP HELP INSIDE THE TEXT

• Furigana above kanji, with control over how much reading help you see
• Tap a word for its reading, meaning, part of speech, and JLPT level
• Check an English translation without losing your place
• Listen with natural Japanese text-to-speech and synchronized sentence highlighting
• See JLPT levels for vocabulary as you read

You can keep reading instead of constantly switching between a reader, dictionary, translator, and separate vocabulary tool.

TURN READING INTO SHADOWING PRACTICE

Tap the microphone icon inside an article to start a shadowing session using the same sentences you are already reading.

Listen → repeat → recall

1. Listen to the sentence after a short countdown.
2. Repeat it aloud while the sentence plays again.
3. On the final repeat, the text fades so you can try to recall the sentence from audio.
4. Rate how the sentence felt. If it was hard, YoMoo gives you an extra blind repeat and can flag the sentence for later review.

You can resume where you stopped, jump to another sentence, change playback speed, show the English gloss when needed, and pause shadowing to look up a word.

YoMoo does not record your voice or score your pronunciation. Shadowing is a self-guided speaking practice built into the reading experience.

BUILD VOCABULARY FROM WHAT YOU ACTUALLY READ

Save words directly from an article instead of creating a separate list from scratch.

• Save vocabulary with one tap
• Filter saved vocabulary by JLPT level
• Review saved words with spaced repetition
• Export vocabulary to Anki or CSV
• Keep reading and vocabulary history across sessions

ANALYZE JAPANESE YOU FIND ANYWHERE

Paste Japanese text into YoMoo's browser-accessible analyzer to get furigana, word segmentation, dictionary information, JLPT levels, and vocabulary tools.

The same idea carries into the app: bring in Japanese from articles, documents, images, and other sources, then read it with the same built-in language tools.

WHO IS YOMOO FOR?

Beginners: Start with simplified N4-N5 material, furigana, dictionary help, and JLPT passages.

Intermediate learners: Read simplified news, move toward original Japanese, and save vocabulary from context.

Advanced learners: Work with native news and literature while using dictionary and JLPT information only when needed.

JLPT learners: Use N5-N1 reading material and vocabulary information as part of your study routine.

Anki users: Save words encountered during real reading and export them to an existing Anki workflow.

A READING LOOP, NOT A PILE OF SEPARATE TOOLS

Read → understand → listen → speak → remember

YoMoo keeps those steps connected to the same Japanese text, so a sentence you read can become a sentence you listen to, shadow, remember, and review.

Furigana for real news and books. I found this looking for a reader app with furigana and it works well. took me a moment to get used to the interface but the developer is really helpful and actively adding features. Has aozora books and other included materials, and various import methods.
