LitterQuest

LitterQuest turns picking up litter into a game you play outside. Photograph the rubbish you collect, earn XP, take control of your suburb, and grow a bond with an Australian animal buddy, all while making your neighbourhood genuinely cleaner.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Spot litter and tap the camera button on the map.
2. Photograph it and log what you found: the type, how many pieces, and where (beach, park, street, bushland, waterway and more).
3. Submit and earn XP straight away. Your exact position is never stored.
4. Watch the map. The player with the most cleanups in a suburb controls it, so out-clean the reigning champion to take it over.

YOUR RANGER AND BUDDIES
- Play as a park ranger, male or female, with free skin tones and hair colours
- Unlock 27 native buddies with XP, from the quokka and kookaburra to the bilby, numbat, platypus and sea turtle; your buddy walks beside you on the map
- Meet each one in 3D in its own habitat, with facts about the real animal and its conservation status
- Bond with your buddies: say hello once a day and clean up together to climb from New friends to Inseparable. They hop, flap and cheer when you do
- Earn hats, held props and medals as you clean in different places

EVERY DAY
- A daily quiz: five questions on litter, recycling and Australian wildlife, worth 10 XP each
- Daily quests and a day streak with personal-best records
- A weekly recap card of your cleanups and XP, ready to share

THE MAP
- Real suburbs as zones, shaded by who controls them and how recently they were cleaned
- 95 landmarks across Western Australia to discover, from Wave Rock to the Busselton Jetty
- Your territory map: every suburb you hold and every cleanup you have made
- Report litter you cannot collect with a pin; another player earns a +30 XP bonus for cleaning it up
- Mark public bins so everyone knows where to put rubbish
- Containers for Change refund points on the map, and a running tally of what your cans could be worth at one

20 LITTER TYPES
Cigarette butts, straws, bottle caps, lids, foil, zip ties and face masks (5 XP each); food wrappers, plastic pieces, cups and styrofoam (8 XP); plastic bags, bottles, cans and cartons (10 XP); glass bottles, batteries and disposable vapes (12 XP); large dumped items (25 XP). Batteries and vapes get their own drop-off guidance.

COMPETE AND TEAM UP
- Global, local-area and crew leaderboards, all-time or this week
- Form a crew with friends and climb together
- A LitterDex of everything you have collected, plus achievements and medals
- Your impact in numbers: pieces collected, estimated weight and CO2e saved if recycled

SAFETY BUILT IN
- The app checks the weather before you head out and warns about wind, storms and heat
- Needles, chemicals and broken glass earn no XP: the app tells you not to touch them and to report them instead
- Under 16? Clean up with an adult

PRIVACY FIRST
Your exact GPS position is never stored: the server coarsens it to a grid of about 100 metres before saving anything. Photos are re-encoded on arrival, which destroys all camera metadata including the location your phone embeds. Photos are private and never shown to other players. No real name, email or phone number is needed: your account is anonymous, with an optional username and PIN so you can recover it on a new phone. Delete your account and everything in it at any time from Settings.

HELP TRAIN THE LITTER SPOTTER (OPTIONAL, 18+)
Adults can choose to label their own photos to help LitterQuest's litter-recognition model improve. It is off by default.

LitterQuest is made in Perth, Western Australia, and works anywhere in Australia; zones and local leaderboards cover Australian suburbs. It is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases. XP, buddies, medals and zones have no monetary value and cannot be bought. Weather data by Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0).
