About Helix Anesthesia Reference

Helix Anesthesia is a clinical reference for the people who work in the room: CRNAs, anesthesiologists, anesthesiologist assistants, anesthesiology residents and fellows, SRNAs, and nurse anesthesia students on clinical rotations. This app is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition.

It is organized the way a case runs, not the way a textbook is written. You should be able to find a dose one-handed, in seconds, without leaving the patient.

WHAT'S INSIDE

Drug reference
Induction agents, neuromuscular blockers and reversal including sugammadex, vasopressors and inotropes, antiemetics, local anesthetics and more. Adult and pediatric dosing, onset and duration, and the cautions that actually change what you do.

Weight-based calculators
Adult, pediatric and fluid calculators. Enter the weight once and it carries across every calculation. Implausible weights are flagged before they can produce a dose.

Regional anesthesia
Interscalene, supraclavicular, infraclavicular, axillary, PECS I & II, serratus anterior plane, erector spinae plane, TAP, quadratus lumborum, femoral, adductor canal, iPACK, popliteal sciatic, spinal and epidural, and more. Each with labeled sonoanatomy, needle approach, local anesthetic dosing and complication profiles.

Crisis checklists
Malignant hyperthermia, local anesthetic systemic toxicity, anaphylaxis, cannot intubate cannot oxygenate, high and total spinal, airway fire, adult and pediatric massive transfusion, neonatal resuscitation, oculocardiac reflex, venous air embolism, bronchospasm, delayed emergence, and the ACLS algorithms. Written to be read under pressure, and available offline.

Obstetric emergencies and preop assessment
Postpartum hemorrhage, placenta accreta spectrum, preeclampsia and eclampsia, amniotic fluid embolism. Plus NPO fasting, ASA physical status, STOP-BANG, Apfel PONV risk, cardiac risk, airway assessment, and the difficult airway and awake fiberoptic intubation algorithms.

Surgical cases
Anesthesia by the operation in front of you, across the major surgical specialties: surgical context, patient factors, antibiotic prophylaxis, positioning, airway, access, monitoring, emergence and analgesia. Approaches are shown unranked with their trade-offs, every statement carries its basis on screen, and each case links through to the block, drug or crisis checklist it depends on.

Ask Helix
An AI assistant tuned for anesthesia questions, with a Report button under every answer so clinical problems reach us directly.

WORKS OFFLINE
Drugs, calculators, blocks, crisis checklists and the glossary all work without a connection. Only Ask Helix needs the internet.

WHAT'S FREE
The free plan is permanent, not a trial. It includes every calculator, every crisis checklist, the full drug library and glossary, and a monthly allowance of AI questions — no card, no expiry. Interscalene, TAP and femoral are open in full, along with a selection of complete surgical cases, so you can judge the depth before paying. The other blocks show dosing and complications; their ultrasound images, sonoanatomy and technique need a subscription.

SUBSCRIPTION
Monthly or annual, with reduced student pricing for verified SRNAs, residents and students. Billing is handled through our website, and you can cancel any time from Settings.

REFERENCE ONLY
Helix Anesthesia supports clinical judgment; it does not replace it. Always verify against your institutional protocol, current package inserts, and the patient in front of you. It is not a medical device, and it does not diagnose patients or control therapy. Every dose, maximum and protocol in the app is mapped to its primary source — package insert, society guideline or primary literature — in a public document at helixanesthesia.com/clinical-sources. You can check our work.
