About Unpack: Files & Archives

Unpack opens archives and explains your storage. It works entirely on your device.

OPENS WHAT OTHER APPS WON'T
ZIP, RAR, RAR5, 7z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, ZST, LZ4, ISO, CAB and LHA. Password-protected and AES-encrypted ZIPs. Split and multi-part archives, reassembled for you. Browse inside an archive before extracting, and pull out a single file if that's all you need.

Archives are detected by their contents, not their file extension — so a renamed or extension-stripped download still opens.

MAKES ZIPS
Select files or folders and compress them. Free, with no limits and no watermark.

SHOWS WHERE YOUR SPACE WENT
A storage report that measures every file it can see: what's using space by category, your biggest folders, and the largest files on the device. Tap a category to search and sort inside it.

FINDS DUPLICATES SAFELY
Identical files are matched by content, not by name — compared byte for byte before anything is offered for deletion. One copy of each is always kept, and the app will not let you delete the last one.

HONEST ABOUT WHAT ANDROID HIDES
Some folders are closed to every app on modern Android, and no permission opens them. Unpack says so plainly instead of pretending, and it never claims to measure what it cannot see.

NO INTERNET PERMISSION
Unpack does not request the internet permission. Not "we promise not to" — the permission is absent from the app, which you can check yourself in Android's own app info screen. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising. Nothing you open is uploaded anywhere, because the app has no way to upload anything.

Opening a file in another app hands it to that app, and what happens next is up to that app. That is the one thing the sentence above does not cover, and we would rather say so.

NO ADS
Not one, anywhere, ever.

WHY IT ASKS FOR ALL FILES ACCESS
Extracting to a folder you chose, and measuring storage across the whole device, both need broad file access on Android 11 and later. Unpack never asks for it on first run — extracting to Downloads needs nothing at all — and when it does ask, it tells you exactly what it will and won't be able to do.

Unpack can extract RAR archives. It cannot create them; the RAR format's licence does not permit it.
