About Dornio: Offline Voice-to-Text
Dornio turns your voice into text — entirely offline. No cloud, no internet required, no upload. Every word stays on your device.
Speak naturally through the floating microphone bubble. Dornio transcribes in real time using on-device speech recognition, with local cleanup and dictionary fixes when enabled. Dornio also includes optional on-device AI assistance on supported devices, so you can ask questions or give voice commands — all without sending your audio anywhere.
Why Dornio?
Most voice to text apps send your audio to the cloud. Dornio does not. Your speech is transcribed on your phone, using AI models downloaded once and then always available offline. Dictate sensitive notes, medical observations, legal memos, personal journals, or anything you would not want uploaded to a third-party server.
Key features:
- Floating microphone bubble — dictate in any app without switching screens
- On-device speech recognition — works with no internet after the first download
- Optional on-device AI assistance on supported devices
- Custom dictionary — teach Dornio your names, abbreviations, and technical terms
- Multi-language support
- Recent transcript history — dictations saved locally on the device
- Works on airplane mode
Accessibility Service disclosure
Dornio uses the Android Accessibility Service to provide voice dictation across all apps. This is required because Android does not provide a standard API for third-party apps to detect text field focus or insert text into another app.
Dornio uses the Accessibility Service exclusively for:
- Detecting text fields: identifying when you are in an editable text field, by monitoring window and focus change events, so the floating microphone can appear.
- Detecting keyboard visibility: showing or hiding the floating microphone depending on whether the on-screen keyboard is open.
- Inserting dictated text: placing your transcription into the active text field without replacing your keyboard, using the accessibility paste action. Password fields are always skipped.
Nothing leaves your phone. Dornio does not collect, store, or share screen content, text from other apps, audio, or transcriptions, and reads nothing while dictation is not active. Speech recognition runs on your device. Dornio does not work around Android's built-in privacy controls, change system settings without your permission, or use deceptive interface practices.
The service is not enabled by default. Dornio cannot type for you without it, so it asks you to turn it on during setup — but only after explaining, on screen, exactly what the service does and what it can access, and only if you agree. You can turn it off at any time in Android Settings, under Accessibility; Dornio then stops dictating until you turn it back on.
Who uses Dornio:
Writers and journalists capturing ideas fast — Doctors and lawyers dictating sensitive notes — Students transcribing lectures — Field workers with no cell signal — Anyone who types slowly and thinks fast
