About the Author:
At the age of nine years he entered a Jesuit college and six years later he studied philosophy the Jesuit school at Cologne. He completed a master of arts and entered the Society of Jesus. After this he taught in Cologne and also at Aachen to the complete satisfaction of his superiors, and also was the spiritual director of the junior Sodality. Here he showed his remarkable oratorical talents. Having completed the theological course of four years and received Holy Orders, and became employed in giving popular missions, so great had his reputation as a preacher already become. His was next appointed to the chair of logic at Coblenz, and then he was assigned to the cathedral pulpit at Trier. He continued in that employment for nineteen years, spiritually advancing the city. Besides this he was sought after as a confessor, and he also became chaplain of the city prison.
