Proverbs is a collection of wise sayings, which raises questions of values, moral behaviour, the meaning of human life, and right conduct. It theological foundation is that "the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom."

Ecclesiastes is the musings of a King Solomon as he relates his experiences and draws lessons from them, often self-critical.

The Song of Songs celebrates married love, giving "the voices of two lovers, praising each other, yearning for each other, proffering invitations to enjoy".

Isaiah describes how God will make Jerusalem the centre of his worldwide rule through a royal saviour (a messiah) who will destroy her oppressor (Babylon). Isaiah speaks out against corrupt leaders and for the disadvantaged, and roots righteousness in God's holiness rather than in Israel's covenant.
