پښتانه د افغانستان په سویل او د پاکستان په شمال لوېدیځ خاوره کې ځایي اوسیدونکي دي چې د نفوسو ډېری برخه په همدې سیمو کې اوسیږي. پښتنو پاچایانو په لوېديځ کې له مرکزي فارس نه نيولې په ختیځ کې تر بنګال پورې پر بېلابېلو سيمو واکمني کړې ده. د خورو ورو پښتنو د پام وړ او تاریخي ټولنې د پاکستان په سیند او پنجاب صوبو کې (په ځانګړې توګه د کراچۍ او لاهور په ښارونو کې) او د هند د اترپردیش ایالت په روهیل کنډ سیمه (په لویو ښارونو، لکه: ډیلي او ممبئی) کې شتون لري. په دې وروستیو کې پښتانه د فارس خلیج په عربي هېوادونو کې (په ځانګړې توګه په عرب متحده اماراتو کې) د لوی سویلي آسیا د خورو ورو وګړو لویه برخه جوړوي.
په افغانستان کې پښتانه تر ټولو لویه توکمیزه ډله ګڼل کېږي چې په ۲۰۱۸ ز کال کې یې د دې هېواد د ټول نفوس نږدې ۵۰٪ برخه جوړوله. دوی په افغانستان کې د دې ولس د را منځ ته کېدو راهیسې د توکمیزو ژبو واکمنه ډله ده. له دې سره، په پاکستان کې پښتانه دویمه لویه توکمیزه ډله ده چې د هېواد د ټول نفوس له ۱۵٪ نه تر ۱۸٪ پورې برخه جوړوي او د نوموړي ولس له پنځو لویو توکمیزو ډلو نه ګڼل کېږي. په نړۍ کې پښتانه ۲۶مه لویه توکمیزه ډله ده او د نسب د طبقاتو تر ټولو لویه توکمیزه ډله ګڼل کېږي. د اټکل پر بنست له ۳۵۰ نه تر ۴۰۰ پښتانه قومونه او قبیلې شتون لري.

Pashtuns , also known as Pakhtuns, or Pathans, are a nomadic, pastoral, Eastern Iranic ethnic group primarily residing in northwestern Pakistan and southern and eastern Afghanistan. They historically were also referred to as Afghans until the ratification of the 1964 Constitution of Afghanistan, which stated anyone with citizenship is Afghan, and the 1970s after the term's meaning had become a demonym for members of all ethnic groups in Afghanistan.

The Pashtuns speak the Pashto language, which belongs to the Eastern Iranian branch of the Iranian language family. Additionally, Dari serves as the second language of Pashtuns in Afghanistan, while those in Pakistan and India speak Hindi-Urdu and other regional languages as their second language.

There are an estimated 350–400 Pashtun tribes and clans with a variety of origin theories. The total population of the Pashtun people worldwide is estimated to be around 49 million, although this figure is disputed due to the lack of an official census in Afghanistan since 1979. They are the second-largest ethnic group in Pakistan and one of the largest ethnic groups in Afghanistan, constituting around 18.24% of the total Pakistani population and around 47% of the total Afghan population. In India, significant and historical communities of the Pashtun diaspora exist in the northern region of Rohilkhand as well as in major Indian cities such as Delhi and Mumbai.
