The Amhara Region , officially the Amhara National Regional State , is a regional state in northern Ethiopia and the homeland of the Amhara, Awi, Xamir, Argoba, and Qemant people. Its capital is Bahir Dar which is the seat of the Regional Government of Amhara. Amhara is the site of the largest inland body of water in Ethiopia, Lake Tana (which is the source of the Blue Nile), and Semien Mountains National Park (which includes Ras Dashan, the highest point in Ethiopia). Amhara is bordered by Sudan to the west and northwest and by other the regions of Ethiopia: Tigray to the north, Afar to the east, Benishangul-Gumuz to the west and southwest, and Oromia to the south. Towns and cities in Amhara include: Bahir Dar, Dessie, Gonder, Debre Birhan, Debre Tabor, Kombolcha, Weldiya, Debre Markos, Seqota, Kobo, and Metema.

'አማራ(ነፃ-ህዝብ:ጨዋ:ኩሩ) (ክልል 3) ከዘጠኙ ከኢትዮጵያ ክልሎች አንዱ ሲሆን አራት የሀገሪቱን ዋና ወና ክፍለ ሀገራት ያካትታል እነሱም ጎንደር:ጐጃም:ቤተ-አምሓራ(ወሎ)እና ሸዋ ናቸው።የአማራ ብሔራዊ ክልል ጅኦግራፊያዊ አቀማመጥ በ8° 45 እስከ 13° 45 ሰሜን የኬንትሮስ እና በ35° 46 እስከ 40° 25 ምስራቅ የኬንትሮስ መስመር ውስጥ ይገኛል። በምስራቅ የአፋር፣ በምዕራብ ሱዳን እና ቤንሻንጉል-ጉምዝ ክልል፣ በሰሜን የትግራይ ክልልና ኤርትራ በደቡብ የኦሮሚያ ክልል ያዋስኑታል። የቆዳ ስፋቱ ፻፶፯ሺ፸፮ ካሬ ሜትር ሲሆን ከአገሪቱ አሥራ አምስት በመቶ ድርሻ ይይዛል። የክልሉ ሕዝብ ብዛት ደግሞ በ፳፻፪ ዓ/ም 20,875,456 እንደነበር የተገመተ ሲሆን አንዳንድ ደግሞ ከ 40 ሚልዮን ሕዝብ በላይ እንደሆነ ይናገራሉ (49 %) ከአገሪቱ ጠቅላላ ሕዝብ 33.9% አካባቢ ድርሻ ይይዛል ተብሎ ይገመታል። ክልሉ በ፲ ዞኖችና በ፻፷፮ የገጠርና የከተማ ወረዳ አስተዳደሮች የተከፋፈለ ሲሆን ከዚህ ውስጥ ፴፰ የሚሆኑት የከተማ አስተዳደሮች ናቸው።የአማራ፣የአገው፣የኦሮሞና የሌሎች ብሔረሰቦች በጋራ የሚኖሩበት ክልል ነው።እንዲሁም የአማራ ክልል አሁን ላይ የክልል ከተማው ባህር ዳር ነው አማራ ማለት ጀግና የጀግና ልጅ ነው ለምሳሌነት አጤ ቴዎድሮስ፣በላይ ዘለቀ፣እምየ ምኒልክ፣ንጉሥ ሚካኤል እነዚህ በዋናነት ይጠቀሳሉ እንጂ ብዙዎችን ማውሳት ይቻላል
