Litanies are a type of prayer, led by a priest or deacon in church or done privately at home. They contain a series of petitions with fixed responses. They originated in the 4th century, and were later incorporated into the Mass. Presently, they are used in the liturgy of the Church, and for other public worship services. The combination of invocations alternating with petitions is often rhythmic.
There are five litanies approved for public worship: the Sacred Heart, the Precious Blood, the Saints, the Blessed Virgin, and St. Joseph. All of these are included in this app.
The other litanies are to be used for private devotion.
