About Infancy Gospel of Thomas Childhood of Jesus Christ

This app contains a translation of the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas, which records popular stories about the childhood of Jesus Christ, thus supposedly offering insight into some of the "lost years" or "missing years" of Jesus that are not elaborated on in the Canonical Gospels. In this fascinating sacred text from New Testament apocrypha, Thomas the Apostle recounts many miracles, signs, and wonders performed by the Christ Child, including healings and resurrections, along with a number of controversial yet humorous episodes during which the Child responds to antagonism, abuse, and disrespect. While regarded by all of the Church Fathers to be fraudulent, fictional, and heretical, the work enjoyed great popularity during the Middle Ages and may have even been a source for certain passages in the Muslim Qur'an. The earliest known copy of the manuscript, discovered at Nag Hammadi, was written in Coptic Egyptian, thus indicating a probable Gnostic origin. This app offers an easily accessible reference you can read and study at any time. Translated into English in a style similar to that of the King James Bible.

What is New Testament Apocrypha?
The word "apocrypha" means "things put away" or "things hidden". The New Testament apocrypha are writings by early Christians that give accounts of Jesus and His teachings, as well as the lives and teachings of His Apostles, that are not included in the modern Biblical canon. Some of these writings were cited as Scripture by early Christians, but since the 5th century a widespread consensus emerged limiting the official New Testament to the 27 books of the modern canon, thereby rejecting apocryphal texts. Thus, modern Churches generally do not view these New Testament apocrypha as part of the Bible. For these texts, scholars often use the term pseudepigrapha, meaning "falsely inscribed" or "falsely attributed", in the sense that these accounts were written by an anonymous author who appended the name of an apostle to his work. Almost all books called "apocrypha" in the Protestant tradition are pseudepigrapha.
