This app contains the Aditya Hridaya Stotra or Adityahridayam, a devotional hymn and blessing from the ancient Ramayana epic. The Aditya Hridaya is considered the most powerful prayer to the Sun-God Aditya (or Surya). The hymn was recited by the Hindu sage Agastya to Sri Rama (avatar of Vishnu) on the battlefield before fighting the demon king Ravana. By reciting this "blessing of blessings", Sage Agastya promises victory over all enemies, complete prosperity, purification from sin, anxiety, and grief, as well as the gifts of longevity and never-ending supreme bliss. The hymn also identifies Aditya with all other Hindu Gods, including Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and Skanda. What is the Ramayana?
The Ramayana is an ancient Indian epic poem which narrates the struggle of the divine prince Rama to rescue his beloved wife Sita from the demon king Ravana. It is traditionally attributed to the Hindu sage Valmiki, and comprises one of the largest epics in world literature. The original text is believed to have been written between 500 BCE to 100 BCE. Rama, the hero of the Ramayana, is one of the most popular deities worshipped in the Hindu religion. The poem serves not only as a literary masterpiece, but also as an integral part of Hinduism. It is held in such reverence that the mere reading or hearing of the text is believed by Hindus to free one from sin and bestow blessings on the reader or listener.
