What was the Illuminati?
The Bavarian Illuminati was a secret society founded by German philosopher Adam Weishaupt on May 1, 1776. The society's goals were to spread the reason-based values and ideas of the European Enlightenment movement, including individual liberty and equality, while opposing abuses of state power, superstition, obscurantism, and religious influence over public affairs. The philosophies of the Illuminati, along with that of the Freemasons, played a key role in the French Revolution of 1789-1799, as well as the American Revolution from 1776 onward.
