About Philippians 1 To Live is Chris

This app contains Chapter 1 from Paul's Epistle to the Philippians in the New Testament. Apostle Paul and his fellow disciple and evangelist Timothy first visited Philippi in Macedonia, Greece during Paul's second missionary journey, which occurred approximately 49-51 CE. Philippi was the location of the first Christian community established in Europe. It is evident that Paul wrote this epistle while in prison, possibly in Rome. The first chapter of the letter is the source for the famous quotes "To live is Christ and to die is gain" and "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus". Paul also offers a prayer for Love to abound more and more, in knowledge and discernment, for the saints, bishops, and deacons of the Church of Philippi, and discusses their challenges in preaching Christ and defending the Gospel of Grace. The Biblical text in this app is from the King James Version (KJV). Perfect for meditation or Bible study sessions!

Who was Paul of Tarsus?
Paul of Tarsus, also known as Saint Paul the Apostle, taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the first century world. Paul is considered to be one of the most important figures in Church history, especially of the Apostolic Age, having founded several churches in Asia Minor and Europe. He utilized his status as both a Jew and a Roman citizen to minister to both Jewish and Roman audiences, but is most well-known for his unique task of spreading the Gospel to the Gentiles. Paul had originally been dedicated to persecuting the early disciples of Jesus before his Epiphany and vision of the resurrected Christ on the road to Damascus, which resulted in his conversion and new life. Thirteen of the twenty-seven books in the New Testament have traditionally been attributed to Paul. Today, Paul's epistles continue to be key sources for the theology, worship, and ministry of the Catholic and Protestant traditions of the West, as well as the Orthodox traditions of the East. Saint Augustine of Hippo further developed Paul's assertion that salvation is based on faith in Jesus Christ and not on "works of the law". Martin Luther's interpretation of Paul's writings influenced his doctrine of sola fide, which became one of the basic theological underpinnings of the Protestant Revolution.
