The first-generation Firebird was only produced for three years, from 1967 to 1969, but more than 250,000 units were sold. The previous generation Firebird was sold from 1996 to 2002 and was offered in a coupe and convertible body styles in three different trim levels. The third-generation Pontiac Firebird was first introduced in 1982 with all-new sheet metal and a reduced range of Base, S/E, and Trans Am models.
The overall styling of the Pontiac Firebird reflects the Banshee IV concept more than the 1991 "facelift" the third-generation model received. Pontiac also introduced a rare option for the 1978 Trans Am GTA, an $800 "sedan" that replaced the standard long, wide glass-dominated sedan, making the Firebird's design less like it. Design and share look with Pontiac Fiero. For better aerobatic performance, the Firebirds used were Firebird Formulas with Pontiac 400 engines, with the badges were removed and the Formula hood replaced by the standard base model hood. The Firebird comes with five different machines, all exclusively built by Pontiac.
The Firebird Esprit is a luxury model with exterior options, a luxury interior package, and a Pontiac 350 as standard equipment. The Ram Air model appeared in 1969 as an optional performance and styling package, named after the American racing series.
When the Firebird first rolled off the assembly line in 1967, it marked Pontiac's glorious entry into the American pony car market. The Pontiac Firebird produced four distinct generations from 1967 to 2002 and, like many American cars of that era, was struck by the oil crisis and tightening emissions regulations in the 1970s. While production was discontinued in 1992 when Pontiac introduced the fourth-generation Bird, the WS6 special performance kit returned in 1996 with an air hood. It remained there until the last Firebird took off from Detroit in 2002. Check our awesome Pontiac Firebird wallpapers.
In the final year of the Pontiac Firebird (1981), the 1976 Trans Am still used the same engine as the previous model year, with the only change being the addition of a new electronic carburetor system. In the fourth-generation Firebird (1993-2002), a reasonable attempt was made to keep the car, and Pontiac did a great job with it. While David Hasselhoff was trying to make the car enjoyable again with the hit Knightrider show, the Firebird had just lost its appeal to the public, and Pontiac's days of discovering the Firebirds from 1982-1992 were numbered. Due to technical issues that delayed the all-new 1970 Firebird until its usual fall debut, Pontiac continued to produce the Pontiac Firebird until the start of the 1970 model year.
