Nissans Leaf is an all-electric car that runs exclusively on electricity provided by high-voltage lithium-ion batteries. The lithium-ion battery pack and the inverter use second-generation Nissan LEAF technology, and the motor produces 240kW of power and 640Nm of torque. The new lithium-ion battery is not as large as the one used in previous models, but it has a 67% higher energy density than the 2010 fully electric Leaf, offering 400km of range.
Two years after the introduction of the fully electric Leaf, Nissan became the first company in the world to introduce a system allowing customers to share energy among their homes and the cars they own. All LEAF models, except the base model S, include an option to pre-heat or pre-cool a Nissan Leaf when still connected to lower the energy used by the battery pack. It will let you know when the Leafs Lithium-Ion pack is charging, and you can then manage the A/C, so that cabin temperatures are set to the right level before getting into the Leaf. Using the single-phase, 200-volt, 15-amp electrical power source, Leafs lithium-ion pack fully charges within eight hours using a 220-volt socket, or roughly double that time if you connect to 110. The Leaf's batteries are likely to retain 70 to 80 percent capacity, according to Nissan estimates, even after ten years of use. On a 240-volt plug, both the Leaf's standard and larger batteries in the Leaf Plus can be recharged in seven hours, according to Nissan.
The Leaf will still need around seven hours to recharge the battery from that source fully. The Plus edition gets the 62-kWh battery, giving the Leaf a rated range of between 215 and 226 miles, depending on trim. The standard Leaf models get an electric motor that produces 147 horsepower to drive the front wheels; the battery, at 40.0-kWh, provides the juice. The traditional Leaf models come all equipped with 40.0-kWh batteries, providing a relatively limited 149-mile range. We prepared the best Nissan Leaf wallpapers HD.
Battery-electric vehicles retain their range fables quite well, and many using LEAFs may see ranges between 100A and 270 miles available. Popular Mechanics has also mentioned the Leaf's 160km (100 miles) content, which is said to be sufficient for most commuters at an average car price -- and at a far lower running cost than a gas-powered car. The old 24kWh battery pack range was estimated at 84 miles by the EPA. Still, this figure is not directly comparable with range estimates in prior years because battery charging status -- at 80% (for longer battery life) or 100% (for max range) -- is inconsistent between years. Nissan offers a base warranty package covering a similar length of time to that provided for the rest of the Leaf range; the Leaf's batteries, however, are covered up to eight years, or 100,000 miles.
