Mazda CX-3 is a Japanese-built, small crossover SUV. The small crossover SUV, the Mazda CX-3, is more of a subcompact hatchback. The CX-3 is technically the smallest SUV in the Mazda lineup, sharing the space in the subcompact SUV segment with the slightly larger, only marginally more expensive, CX-30. The 2021 Mazda CX-3 offers spacious front seats, many standard features, and all the safety equipment needed to make it to the end of the daily commute. Plus, it is willing to provide an enjoyable ride on the twisty mountain roads over the weekends.

The Mazda CX-3 is powered by a 2.0-liter, 148-hp, four-cylinder engine, which works in conjunction with a six-speed automatic. The 146-horsepower four-cylinder provides the boost but is not incredibly refined, and the four-wheel drive costs extra. It is not the most powerful four-cylinder in the subcompact SUV segment--that title belongs to Kias braggadocio-spewing 1.6-liter turbo--but our test car with four-wheel drive did 0-60 mph in 8.1 seconds. I like the sports features, including the black exterior trim surrounding the wheel wells, the low but not overly low ground clearance, and a new full-front grille. I was impressed by how many features and options are included with the Mazda CX-3 GT at this price.
