Shivaji was a great unifying force. He was King of the Peasants because he did not allow anyone to exploit them. He used to warn his soldiers not to plunder the poor, no disrespect to any women in his kingdom. The avaricious feudal lords feared Shivaji. Injustice was intolerable.

Many kings and soldiers plundered towns for money and other resources. The soldiers were allowed a free hand to plunder. So naturally a soldier who plundered more got more than those who plundered little. In Shivajis army the entire loot was deposited in Treasury and all the soldiers were given appropriate share without inequity.
