Overall Description
Big Blue Liriope is an improved version of an old traditional favorite. The standard Muscari ( Green Liriope ) has been used in staggering numbers over the past several decades, due to its excellent hardiness, thick coverage, and extremely wide variety of landscape applications. Big Blue Liriope has all those same great characteristics.....but with a few interesting "twists", or improvements.
Foliage ( blade ) color is an even deeper green, with just a hint of blue to it if fed properly. Foliage is extremely dense when mature, and forms a nice, tight evergreen grasslike clump. Throughout the summer months, Big Blue will put forth a display of numerous blue colored flower spikes, each one followed by a generous collection of bluish / black colored berries in the fall season. Nice thick blades form a mounded clump.
Uses for this variety are almost endless - but among the most common are: planted on slopes for groundcover / erosion control, around the base of larger trees & shrubs as groundcover, edging along landscape beds, along walkways, and I have even seen this grass used as a low growing accent in large container gardens. Even works very well in shady locations - so versatile!!
