Give a notebook a name and a cover and it sits on your shelf like a real one — a project, a class, a journal, the flat. Pin the one you are living in to the top. Every note inside it carries its colour, so you always know where you are.

Bold, italic, headings, bullets and numbered lists, on a formatting rail that sits above the keyboard where your thumb already is. Notes save themselves as you write.

A to-do list opens with real checkboxes and a progress bar. A recipe opens with servings and time at the top, ingredients you tick off at the counter, and auto-numbered method steps. A savings tracker adds up. Sixty-six of them, across Plan, Work, Life, Track and School — and you see exactly what one makes before it makes anything.

Every template is free to use, as many as you like. Save any note you have written as a template of your own, and it joins the list.

FLOATING NOTES, OVER WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING

Send a note to a floating bubble and it stays on top while you use other apps — a recipe over the browser, a packing list while you book a flight. Tap the bubble to open the whole note, tap again to put it away, drag it off to close it. It is the same note, live: tick something in the bubble and it is ticked in the app.

DUE DATES THAT REMIND YOU

Give a checklist item a date, and optionally a reminder. It arrives on the morning of the day, on this device, and checking the item off is all it takes to cancel it.

BRING IN WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE

Import a PDF, EPUB or CBZ and read it inside the notebook it belongs to. Markdown, plain text, HTML, RTF, spreadsheets and Kindle books come in too. A Word or PowerPoint file comes in as a note you can edit. Every imported file wears its own mark in the grid — the Markdown "M", a red PDF page, the green spreadsheet grid — so you can tell a reading list from a lecture at a glance.

SEARCH THAT LOOKS EVERYWHERE

One box, every notebook, matching titles and text. Tap a result and you land in the note with its notebook underneath, so going back takes you somewhere sensible.

Writing in Binder has no limits and never will: every template, every section, every note, free. One payment adds exporting a note as a PDF, Word, Markdown, EPUB, HTML, RTF or plain text file, and keeping more than one note floating at once. No subscription, no account, nothing to renew, and nothing you have already written is ever behind it.

WHAT BINDER DOES NOT DO

• No account. There is nothing to sign up for.
• No sync, no cloud, no server. Your notebooks are on this device.
• No ads, no analytics, no crash reporting, no trackers.
• Internet access is used for one thing: the Feedback screen, and only once you have written a message and tapped Send.
• The rest of the permissions are ones you turn on yourself — notifications, for reminders you set; and drawing over other apps, for notes you float. Neither is asked for before you use the feature, and both can be taken back in system settings at any time.

Because nothing is uploaded, nothing can be restored by us either. If you uninstall the app or lose the phone, your notebooks go with it. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
