The Communist Manifesto is a booklet written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.
The Communist League commissioned the Manifesto, which was first published in London just before the 1848 revolutions erupted, and was eventually recognised as one of the world's most influential political publications. It presents an analytical approach to class struggle (historical and current) and conflicts between capitalism and the capitalist mode of production, rather than a prediction of communism's future forms.
The Communist Manifesto encapsulates Marx and Engels' beliefs about the nature of society and politics, particularly that "the history of all previously existing society is the history of class struggles," as they put it. It also includes a brief discussion of their visions for how the capitalist society of the period would be replaced by socialism. The authors of the Manifesto urge for a "forced overthrow of all existing social conditions" in the concluding paragraph, which served as a call for communist revolutions all over the world. The Communist Manifesto, together with Marx's Capital, Volume I, was registered with UNESCO's Memory of the World Programme in 2013.
