The majestic Castle of Santa Olalla del Cala was built by Sancho IV the Brave in 1293 as part of the defensive line known as the "Banda Gallega." It is an archaeological site inhabited from the Paleolithic to the Roman period. The Parish Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, built between the 14th and 18th centuries on the site of a former synagogue, is a jewel of Gothic-Mudejar Baroque architecture. Also notable in the natural setting is the centuries-old Holm Oak of the Dehesa de San Francisco, a 400-500-year-old Natural Monument.
