About Guía de Arroyomolinos de León

The Arroyomolinos de León Guide app is a free tool part of the Unified Digital Street Map of Andalusia (CDAU) project and developed by the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA). This app offers detailed information about Arroyomolinos de León, a picturesque village located in the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche mountains, in the province of Huelva. Its features include:

History and Heritage: Founded in the 13th century after the repopulation promoted by the Order of Santiago, its name alludes to the presence of numerous mills along its streams. Its emblematic monuments include the Parish Church of Santiago el Mayor, built in the late 13th century with a Mudejar belfry and Mudejar and neoclassical doorways, as well as the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, rebuilt around 1700. Also noteworthy are the remains of up to 32 mills, including the Molino de Atanasio, converted into an Interpretation Center, and the unique Puente de la Gitana (Gitana Bridge). Mount Bonales, Huelva's highest peak (1,055 m), and the Mirador del Bujo offer exceptional panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Activities: The natural environment is part of the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park, perfect for hiking and enjoying the landscape of meadows, streams, and native forests. It is also notable for having the only paragliding runway in Huelva, ideal for flying over the park. It also has the distinction of being a Starlight Reserve, recognized for its clear night sky. The Atanasio Mill Interpretation Center and the mill trails offer outdoor cultural activities.

Local Gastronomy: The gastronomy is based on traditional products from the Sierra: cured meats such as Iberian ham, chorizo, and blood sausage, along with migas (breadcrumbs) and buñuelos (fritters) as standout dishes.

Festivals and Traditions: The community celebrates its devotion with rituals that strengthen local identity. Highlights include the Pilgrimage in honor of the Virgin of Los Remedios, on the third Sunday in May; the Fair in her honor from August 15 to 18, with processions and the traditional "bull of fire"; and the festival of San Antonio on June 13, complemented the night before by the lighting of candles.

The app also includes an interactive street map to locate points of interest, bars, and restaurants, making it easier to plan your visit. Immerse yourself in the essence of Arroyomolinos de León and enjoy a unique experience with this comprehensive tourist guide.
