The Cuevas Bajas Tourist Guide app is a free tool part of the Unified Digital Street Map of Andalusia (CDAU) project and developed by the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA). This app offers detailed information about Cuevas Bajas, a picturesque village located in the northern region of Málaga, in a beautiful valley on the banks of the Genil River. Its highlights include:

History and Heritage: With history dating back to the Paleolithic (with tools dating back some 40,000 years), Cuevas Bajas was settled next to ancient Roman roads recorded in the Itinerary of Antonio, as well as the remains of villas from that period. After the Christian conquest in 1426, it was repopulated and reached a significant population by the 18th century. Its notable monuments include:

The Church of San Juan Bautista (18th century), with red marble baptismal fonts from 1606 and works by religious sculptors such as Castillo Lastrucci and the Antequera school.

The Casa de los Cristales and the Casa de Felipe Quintana on Calle Real.

The historic villages of Cedrón and La Moheda, founded in medieval times, with traditional architecture and remains of a communal bakery and oil mill.

The La Agusadera waterwheel (19th century), a symbol of the town, once used for irrigation along the Genil River.

The natural viewpoint of Cerro de la Cruz (768 m), from which you can see areas spanning up to three Andalusian provinces, and the Huertas del Marqués (Marquis Gardens), with intact Moorish irrigation ditches.

The interactive digital platform "Cuevas Bajas, at your own pace," with free audio guides (Spanish and English) that explain the main sites in the municipality: church, orchards, villages, oil factory chimney, municipal fountain, waterwheel, etc.

Themed experiences such as "Bandit's Refuge," guided tours that recreate the history of local bandits such as El Tempranillo or El Renegao, touring historic streets and former Civil Guard barracks.

Summer activities such as routes along the Mozarabic Way, canoe trips along the Genil River, and walks through surrounding villages.

Local Gastronomy: Local cuisine includes recipes such as porra fría (cold porridge), migas (breadcrumbs), various stews, pastries of Hispano-Arabic heritage (oil cakes, wine rings, milk flowers, etc.), and the traditional festive "resol" (bread made with olive oil).

The star product is the purple carrot, symbolizing the town's culinary identity. The "Villa Morá" celebrates this vegetable with an annual festival that includes tastings, recipes, and family activities.

Festivals and Traditions: The community maintains celebrations with strong local roots:

Festivals in honor of Saint John the Baptist (June 24 and 25), with processions and celebrations in the countryside.

A four-day summer fair in August.

The Candlemas Festival (February 2), with bonfires in the streets, burning dolls, and rosquillas (baked doughnuts) the following day.

Carnival, the outdoor feast of Saint Mark (April 25), and the aforementioned Purple Carrot Festival in December.
