Historical Context:
The first Tamil Bible translation, including both the New and Old Testaments, was published in 1840.
The Old Testament was translated by J. P. Fabricius of the S.P.C.K. (Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge) mission in Madras.
The New Testament was first translated by C. T. E. Rhenius of the C.M.S. (Church Missionary Society) mission in Madras and Tinnevelly and published in 1715.
Subsequent revisions and translations have been made over time, with Fabricius's revision becoming a standard version.
Original Translation:
The first Tamil Bible was translated by Bartholomäus Ziegenbalg, a German missionary, in the early 18th century, specifically in 1715.
Key Revision:
Johann Philipp Fabricius, also a German missionary, significantly revised and improved upon Ziegenbalg's work, making it the standard Tamil version. His work took 35 years, and he is said to have carefully considered each word, resulting in what became known as the "Golden Version".

Indian Revised Version:
The IRV builds upon this established tradition of translation. It represents a later revision of Fabricius's work, incorporating modern language and interpretations while staying true to the core of the original translation.
