The Sagradas Escrituras 1569 was one of the first complete translations of the Bible into Spanish having been translated from the original Hebrew and Greek texts into Spanish by Casiodoro de Reina. It's is also known as the Biblia del Oso or the Bear Bible.
It was published in Basel, Switzerland, on September 28, 1569. This version underwent many revisions that later formed the popular Reina Valera.
The Bear Bible is the first complete translation of the Bible into español from Greek and Hebrew. Its name comes from the fact that the cover depicted a bear eating a honeycomb, since religious icons were avoided because at that time translations into vernacular languages ​​were prohibited. Until then (1569), it had not been possible for the public to access the sacred book. Casiodoro de la Reina is the Protestant friar who was in charge of the translation. He fled Spain with a group of monks and settled in Geneva, later settling in London, where the first Spanish-speaking church in Great Britain was founded. He later lived in the Netherlands, where he began his translation work
