The app runs a foreground service to keep a live connection to the alerting system active, even when the app is running in the background. This ensures incident alerts are delivered instantly and reliably rather than being delayed or missed. A persistent notification ("Connected to the notification service") stays visible while this is active, and you can view, acknowledge, or escalate any incident directly from the alert — or stop the service at any time from the app.
