Official Interactive Multimedia - Audio Guide
The story of the Museum of Literature and Performing Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina begins back in 1961. This institution was originally established as the Museum of Literature of Bosnia and Herzegovina and in 1977 it got its present name. The Museum now houses 67 literary and 30 performing art collections with more that twenty thousand artefacts. It showcases lives and works of Bosnian authors of all ethnicities and confessions and it tells a story about a versatile and vibrant life, full of terrible and heavy blows, but also about an enormous proliferation rarely to be seen elsewhere.
The Museum’s permanent exhibition includes collections of ten Bosnian writers and nine preforming artists. It also features a short history of Bosnian theater.
The house where the Museum of Literature and Performing Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been located since 1961 dates back to the mid 19th century. At the beginning owned by the Skarić family, and then by the Despić family, this house is listed as a 1st category monument.
The Museum has also a gallery known as the MAK Gallery and the Museum Garden, which are the two places where all our special programs take place.
