The A-Game Health and Fitness app was created by Adam Clawson, a certified integrative nutrition health coach (IIN) and certified strength and conditioning specialist (NSCA) with 20 years of experience in the fitness and athletic club industry.
A-Game is not just about bringing your best to your workouts, it's a mindset. A-Game is about achieving your full potential in your health and fitness, and in life. My content aims to inspire, educate, motivate, and empower you to be your best. You don't have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great.
The A-Game Health and Fitness app offers a variety of customized strength and conditioning programs that are designed to be progressive, helping you to improve your endurance, strength, cardiovascular health, flexibility, balance, core strength, and power. I have included not only various styles of training, but also different training tools: medicine balls, kettlebells, dumbbells, barbells, bands, plyo boxes, TRX suspension trainers, and your own bodyweight.
Features of the app include:
-Onboarding program with forms to determine readiness for physical activity, establish goals, and introduce you to the A-Game training philosophy.
-Customized training programs with built-in exercise video demonstrations
-Daily quotes to motivate and inspire you
-Weekly tasks like progress pictures, self-evaluations, progress pictures, and results tracking
-Chat with your trainer
-Progress charts to keep you on track with completing assignments
-Nutrition tracking
The A-Game philosophy is founded on 5 principles. Consistency, Motivation, Improvement, Health, and Science.
Consistency produces results that last a lifetime. Some weeks we don't always have as much time as we would like to workout, but even 5 minutes, or 5 reps, is better than 0.
Motivation is crucial to staying consistent, is typically strong when we first decide we want to make a change, and often fades. Workouts that are too intense, too often, can cause a loss of motivation. The programs are built to keep you motivated by emphasizing not only strength and circuit training, but also less intense, but equally important, portions of the workout such as mobility, foam rolling, cardio, and yoga.
Improvement is an essential ingredient to a successful experience, and we like to recommend small increases in your training variables. It's the small, seemingly insignificant positive actions and behaviors, repeated on a daily basis, that lead to great results, not grand acts. It's great to get out of your comfort zone, but only by the smallest amount necessary to lead to improvement.
While improved fitness is the most commonly expected outcome of engaging in a training program, improved health should be just as important an outcome. The A-Game programs include elements of health coaching, to guide you along your quest to become the best version of you that you can be. You may find that other areas of your life will improve as well (relationships, home environment, career, creativity, joy, spirituality, and finances) as a result of the activities you complete and lessons you learn.
Finally, scientific training principles are applied to the training programs. For example, deload weeks (a period of reduced training volume and intensity) are purposefully placed at specific intervals during each program to allow for adaptations and improvements in the body's systems to occur (that's how we get better). We can't endlessly keep working harder and longer; we have to work smarter, otherwise we just keep digging a hole that we'll never get out of.
