Although a significant proportion of these sufferers have functional disorders, there remains a large number that would benefit from some urgent/semi urgent care. Diagnosis for a lot of the patients are missed, probably due to poor description of their symptoms.

Abdominal pain checker is an app with a difference as it seeks to support patients as well as integrate and test the knowledge of healthcare providers regarding the issue of abdominal pain.

There are offline and online components within this app:

The online aspect include a walk-through assessment of abdominal pain by gender for adults (note that the online tool is insensitive for pregnant patients). Also children below the age of 15 may not find the tool supportive. You do not need to type in anything to get you to a probable diagnosis of your condition. The tool does not replace healthcare providers, but instead, provides support for those that use it in order that they have a productive consultation with their doctors. In some instances, you may find that you are reassured regarding your pain. We would however, still advice that you consult your doctor should you need further evaluations.

The second aspect of the online tool includes the certified knowledge test - with questions that are for nurses and other healthcare workers who need evidence for revalidation purposes. On successful completion of the test, a certificate will show up with your scores (above 70%). You can then print this off or send to your email for electronic storage.

A healthy lifestyle quiz targeting all has replaced previous knowledge game, in order to help all who engage with the app. Once you have completed the game and insert your name (does not have to be your real name), your scores will show up on your page!

Offline resources - include description of abdominal pain and the approach to diagnosis. It has several pictoral information regarding common causes and provides nice photos of likely organs and diseases that may be presenting with pains in different locations of the abdomen.

Lifestyle modifications for conditions like gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and irritable bowel syndrome are also provided within the app.
