About Mages

Mages is a matrix chat client that is built using the newer matrix-rust-sdk.

Features include:

- End-to-end encryption for messages and media, with recovery keys and device verification
- Live location sharing with map view, plus one-time location sharing
- Voice and video calls (1:1 and group) using Element Call
Spaces, threads, polls, reactions, mentions, replies, edits and pinned messages
- Voice messages, images, videos, files and basic stickers
- Multiple accounts
- Login with password, SSO or OAuth/OIDC
- Notifications through UnifiedPush (works without Google services)
- Custom notification rules, quiet hours and conversation bubbles
- Room search, message search, drafts and media gallery
- Privacy controls for read receipts, typing indicators and presence
- Material You theming, light/dark mode and font size options
- Proxy support (HTTP and SOCKS)
- Share from other apps and open matrix.to links

Mages is free and open source software under the AGPL-3.0 license. The identical app is available at no cost on F-Droid and as signed APKs from GitHub.

The app is still experimental. It already covers the main Matrix features, but you may run into bugs. It is not intended as a replacement for the most established clients in every situation.

Permissions are used only for core functions: network access, notifications, camera and microphone for calls and media, and location only when you start sharing your location.

Works with matrix.org and most homeservers. Should be compatible with Element, FluffyChat and all other Matrix clients.

There is no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporting. Any bugs or crashes should/need-to be reported via mail or GitHub.
