The rituals and festivals of village deities known as Grama Devathai are still an important part of rural areas.
Village deity temples are still worshiped and festivals celebrated by the respective villagers even today.
The goddess who protects us, the guardian goddess. The guardian deities are located on the outskirts of the town or in some field.
Kuladheivams are considered as the Ancestral God. Kuladeivam can be a male or a female and these deities are consecrated in a manner to protect and nurture people belonging to a particular clan.
Kulatheivam gives us grace easily. It will also get the benefits of worshiping other deities. It is important to worship the kuladheivam atleast once a year at the place where the kuladheivam resides.
People who have migrated to other places still visit their ancestral village/town and pay their respects by offerings/donations /charity /breaking coconuts.
Without Kula Deivam’s blessing nothing can be done, even our Istha Deivam and guru also sometimes cannot help us. When there is a wedding, Upanayanam, Grahapravesam or any other joyous family function, visiting the Kuladheivam temple is a must.
Due to various unexplained reasons, one (or) one’s family may totally forget and may have discontinued worshiping their Kuladheivam. Its also possible that families gets confused between their Kuladheivam and Ista Deivam generations together and totally forgetting (or) ignoring their Kuladheivam.
No matter how busy in our life, we must visit and worship kuladheivam atleast once in a year.
