About Ukarimu Academy

Ukarimu is the Swahili word for hospitality. Ukarimu Academy helps young people in Africa to get the relevant skills for a career in tourism & hospitality.

This app contains a course on tourism & hospitality which, except for the videos, can be accessed offline. This course is supplementary to the class-based trainings of Ukarimu Academy, but can also be used by anyone who just wants to improve his/her skills. It is focused on entry-level employees and focuses on various aspects of tourism & hospitality.

Ukarimu is developed by EyeOpenerWorks and Mango Tree, two Kampala-based organizations that aim to transform the way how tourism & hospitality skills are taught in Africa. The content has been developed in collaboration with various educational institutes in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa. The creation of the curriculum has been funded by Booking.com.

The curriculum currently consists of 18 modules: a basic package and a number of additional modules on health & safety.

Note that the course is created through the SkillEd platform (skill-ed.org), and therefore you can access other (online) courses as well through this app, but both the online courses and the SkillEd platform are not related to Ukarimu Academy.
