Virology Course

This Virology Course app aims at equipping learners with knowledge and skills, and ability to comprehensively understand the concepts of the science of viruses and the disease they cause to human, animals and plants. It will enable the learner understand the discovery and history of viruses, characteristics of viruses, virus structure, viral nomenclature and classification, genome and replication of viruses, pathogenesis, immune response, control of viruses, various virus families and genera of veterinary and medical importance and be able to apply standard virological techniques used on a daily basis in biomedical and research laboratories. This Virology Course app offers an in-depth exploration of virology, tailored to the learning needs of student, researcher, or anyone curious in knowing about how viruses work.

Once the learner finishes all the topics and lessons found in this Virology Course app, they are expected to be able to:
1. Explain the existence and the nature, history, nomenclature and classification of viruses;
2. Describe the structure and components of a typical virus and a bacteriophage;
3. Explain the mechanisms by which viruses enter, replicate, assemble and leave the infected cell;
4. Understand the principles, mechanisms and immune responses involved in viral infections in humans and animals;
5. Identify and differentiate between various virus families and genera of veterinary and medical importance;
6. State the principles of antiviral therapies and their applications in humans and animals;
7. Perform common virological laboratory procedures used for detecting viral infections in animals.
