Robinson Crusoe is a novel by the English writer Daniel Defoe published in 1719. The novel is epistolary, didactic, and presents the life of the title character in the first person. The main character was born as Robinson Kreutznaer and suffers a shipwreck, then spends twenty-eight years on an island near Trinidad.
